THE SAVAGE PRINCIPLE! Synopsis & Cover Reveal~

Hi Readers! Here's the novella cover/synopsis reveal I promised. I hope to have this work completed before Savage book #4, THE SAVAGE PROTECTOR, releases in March....

King Raymond is betrothed to Princess Ada of a neighboring sphere in an arranged match not of his choosing. Travelers from a parallel world have bargained to save the future of his people and he cannot refuse their offer.

Raymond does not believe that an alliance with the savages would result in a life-altering experience. He soon finds himself overwhelmed when an entanglement of emotion and love conspire to undermine his vow in the most unlikely place.

Rowenna, warrior female of the Band, is a much sought-after female select. When her kin agree to an offer that will unite the races of their future, they do not realize what the sacrifice will cost her.

Can the two peoples of separate societies survive the prejudicial position that has been hoisted on them? Will their sacrifice afford a future of liberty, or will heartbreak be the only consequence of their love?

Finally Readers, here's the long-awaited synopsis for UNREQUITED

The Graysheets remain ominously quiet during the teen's senior year. When tragedy strikes Tiff, her confidence shatters into a million pieces and the group doesn't know how to pick up the scattered mess of her emotional health.

As the control of the Zondorae scientists slips away, they make a final move to swing the balance in their favor, negotiating a future for the paranormals that is so final, a covert group moves to halt the momentum of their control over humanity with Jeffrey Parker as the catalyst.

In a final bid to protect everyone, Caleb discovers he was at the center from the beginning, an unwilling pawn moved on a chess board that no longer exists. Will he have a future of safety and happiness for himself and Jade? Or will the decisions made before the fateful day of inoculation remain to hinder that forever?

Update: my manuscript is now in the capable hands of my editor~

A Slice of Savage!

Didn't think I was working on PROTECTOR? Think again... those voices are always speaking. This is what one was thinking last night....
Coming March 2013!

Elise caught sight of something that glittered in the wheaten grass, twinkling at her from the fading light of the day. The knee-high fronds slithered against her woolen skirt as it trailed through the blond sea that parted with her passage. She scooped up the object and immediately recognized it for what it was: a necklace of great intricacy, a lone jewel of meaning in the Outside, to be found by her in this singular moment that gasped like a stolen breath.

She held it between her fingers, admiring the delicate hammered feathers of a fine silver metal, the ancient symbol of catching one's dreams stamped on its structure in a rough circle with a finely woven spider web of metal. A deep green stone winked back at her.

Elise clasped it about her neck, the cold metal heating as it lay against the intersecting bones at the base of her throat. She gave a furtive glance about her person, moving into the border of the forest. Toward safety, toward The Clan of Ohio....

Readers: Whose necklace is this? Can a clever reader answer this question? Further, why is it there?

Jonesy Being Him in UNREQUITED DEATH....

New adult/mature YA content
Unedited and spolier free!

It was a rooster.

Just then, the Js rolled up to the front door. And the birds, instead of acting like live birds and getting out of the way stood there staring at the approaching car and stayed.

Jonesy plowed over one, feathers and chicken zombie guts getting in the spokes of his wheels like plaque in teeth.

He'd be flossing that out of there for forever, I thought, my gaze coming to rest on the chickens standing like feathered sentinels in my zombie's yard.

Wow... just wow.

Jonesy cranked open his door and gave a look of profound disgust. “What is this trumped up shit, Hart?” He looked at me like I'd lost my mind. “I mean, what?” he began, flailing his hands around as John came around the grill of the car to inspect the entrails now wrapped in the grill and tire wells.

“You've been done with probation for three and a half seconds and you raise goddamned chickens?” he asked incredulously.

John clucked at me, “I expected more, really,” he said with a small Mona Lisa smile. Straightening, he plucked a feather out of the grill and sent it flying like a small spear into the air. It stabbed the ground directly in front of the original chicken... that I now knew was a rooster.

“Hey look, Terran,” Jonesy began and waggled his eyebrows and John frowned. We both knew something inappropriate was going to happen but Jonesy was too unpredictable to fathom so we waited for the bomb to drop.

It was like the sun rising, it was going to happen.

“You got a cock in your front yard!” he yelled into the still neighborhood, bent over at the waist and laughing until tears streamed out of his eyes at the lone rooster surrounded by hens....

A Dose of Death for My Readers!

Check out what I wrote Wednesday!
Unedited and spoiler free! *Real time Readers*!

“Ya bunch of Nancy's,” Gramps said, wiping down a perfectly clean counter with his washrag while steam rose from the soapy water as it filled the basin of his kitchen sink.

He drilled us with those deep slate blue eyes of his, wiping his red and chaffed hands off on his apron.

Which never made him look like a sissy. Hell, if I wore that I'd never live it down. But Gramps could take everyone.

I looked at Alex.

Maybe not him.

“Ya all roar over here, park your lethargic asses at the table like a team of locusts, inhale food then proceed to moon and whine about the girls.”

Yup, that about covered it.

“What happened to Man Freedom?”Gramps asked, the soap from his scalded hands dampening the sides of his apron.

“What's a Nancy?” John asked, deeply troubled by being called a name that sounded somehow creepy and female.

“Sissy-suckin'-titty-baby,” I extolled.

“Oh well, that's so flattering,” Archer said, bringing his potato salad bowl to the hot water and putting it into the sink until it was buried by suds.

“If the shoe fits...” Gramps said, whistling tonelessly while we shifted our weight.

“Go!” Gramps said waving us away. “You could have stayed and had junk food and played pool. Now that's a respectable pursuit of one's time.”

Usually that sounded good. But I couldn't get Jade out of my mind. She and the other girls were having some Chick Hang Fest where they broke out all the girl accouterments and the guys got scarce. I just wanted to do a quick check.

Gramps called me over as the guys stumbled into the driveway, the rain was a steady drizzle but it'd still soak you to the skin. It was deceptive: rain in Washington was wet.

Hardy har-har.

“Spill it, champ,” Gramps said.

I shrugged, jamming my hands in my pocket. “I just can't shake the feeling of impending doom,” I said.

Gramps grinned. “You're such a morose kid, pal.”

I smiled. “Yeah.”

“You've had so much excitement here lately that you're like Pavlov's dog: conditioned for chaos.”

I nodded my head. It was true, Pavlov's dogs had understood that when the bell rang, they'd get their supper, drooling at just the chime of that bell.

Well, I'd gotten used to shit going down that was A) always bizarre, B) usually dangerous and C), a personal favorite, life-changing.

Things were calm. Like when I was little and would gaze out the window where pewter clouds formed, pregnant with rain, ready to storm. But not a leaf stirred, wind only a promise.

My life felt like that.

That a storm was coming and I didn't know from which direction....

Hi Readers! As you may already know, I have begun UNREQUITED DEATH and the first chapter is put away. Today marks the beginnings of Chapter Two in book five of the Death Series. Stay tuned for an excerpt of this newest work by next weekend!

The following passage contains profanity.

But for now, you'll have to be satisfied with a snippet of Death....

Written yesterday, *real time readers*
Page 8

John was also the valedictorian. Of course.

“Jade's by Hamilton,” Jonesy said like that little fact would escape my notice.

“Yeah,” I responded.

We stood there staring at that fun occurrence when Tiff came up and stood between us.

“Well that's a fuckburger,” Tiff said casually, eying up Jade's seating.

“Language, Weller,” Griswold hissed, sans whistle. Tiff lifted a narrow shoulder, the satin of her white gown making a slithering sound against her hair. “Okay,” she replied, utterly unruffled. I held in the walrus bark with an effort.

Jonesy didn't, giving a roundhouse guffaw that made Griswold's brows drop into a Hitler mustache above her eyes....

Caleb's thoughts:

Sometimes milestones are not measured by the accomplishments of society, but by those of integrity.

Book Four of the Savage Series

Pieces of Death! UNREQUITED... speaks~

Hi Readers!
I know most of you might not realize that my tab: Voices in My Head, has a lot of little snippets of future works jotted down. Random teasers!

Here's one from UNREQUITED DEATH, my final installment in the Death Series, to be released on December 31, 2012:

Gramps shook his head slightly, the smoke from his cigarette making a loose spiral around his head, wrench in hand. He used it to punctuate his point, "You Zondoraes...,"  he looked Gary over with disdain, pointing the wrench at his chest, who was currently getting the love squeeze from one of my hastily raised zombies, "are really slow learners. Now," he took a drag, holding the thing like a joint and squinted through the wall of cigarette smoke, "but I got the cure for that."

Gramps looked at the zombie holding Gary and then leaned in real close. His low voice holding more menace than a loud one ever could have, "Tell me where the girl is or I'll start with your toenails."

Gary gave a hard swallow then shifted his eyes to mine. "Come on! This isn't right! You can't let this... thug of a grandpa have at my body parts because we got... zealous with a female..."

Actually, I so could. I put my nose an inch from his. "There's no 'letting' on this one Zondorae. It's more like, me not interfering with his excellence."

Gramps and I looked at each other and he stepped forward, crushing the cig under his foot casually. He stepped over it and swung the wrench high, the sun glinted off the thing as it arced downward.

My zombie didn't flinch when it hit....

Final Chapter Tomorrow: The Melody of SONG Continues!

Another Real Time Excerpt written today!
August 23

They struck simultaneously: the Were and vampire taking what had been given in error, the Healer neutralizing the damage as it was laid.

When the Combatant whose blood was called strongest laid his hands on the Queen of Singers, light burst from the huddle of supernaturals, casting a brightness like the sun that none could look upon.

Every being save one threw an arm over their eyes against the glare....

The Tune of SONG Continues:

Real Time Readers!
Written August 22

Julia gave a low moan and Cynthia heard it. They stared at each other for a moment and Cynthia frowned, a low hum starting near her sternum. As if under a compulsion she did not understand Cynthia got closer to Jules and took both her hands.

Heat poured out of her as soon as she made contact with more than just a handshake, both her hands gripped around Julia's.

William landed near the women, giving a single caw that could be felt in the chests of all that stood.

Calling the other vampire like a dinner bell....

Countdown to SONG Begins Here!

*Real Time* Readers! Catch a new excerpt a day as they're written:

Written Aug. 20

Irene looked at him for a moment, weighing his words carefully while lighting another cigarette with her trusty Bic. “Yeah, I gotta worry. I live here. My family's always lived here. We'll live here after you stir up that hornet's nest and they need somebody to sting. Who do ya think that'll be? Eh?”

Truman's excitement over the bone being found gathered a sense of unease at the edges. He'd take all the heat that could be dished but he didn't want to share the entree of danger with innocents.

He stared at a bedraggled Irene, rode hard and put away wet, long miles and time etched on her face like an unfortunate roadmap of land-locked isolation in a community that harbored danger.

Don't worry M'am, the trail won't lead back to you. I give you my word.”

Karl Truman remembered her words with a ringing clarity now, they'd wormed into the fabric of his memories perfectly.

It could be more than your vow, officer. Much more.” Irene had not said those words in a thoughtful way.

She'd uttered them like a certain promise....

*Real Time* Readers! SONG is Singing!

It's time Readers! This is the part of my book when the story rolls down the hill of completion like a delicious spiral. I am currently writing the last third of SONG and everything is coming together seamlessly. Super-excited and I wanted to share the finish of my chapter I wrote yesterday below.

Written Aug. 16

Julia was aware of Cyn screaming behind her, the flap of bird's wings were sounding a roar in her ears, warm fur pressed against her body, muscled arms hauled her against a massive body and all the while the glitter fell over her like a shroud.

Of snow.

Blown by a mouth so red it looked like blood.

Julia closed her eyes.

And slept.

While her protectors wept.

Chatter with Author J.A. Redmerski:

Jessica, you've blown it out of the park with your dark urban fantasy, “new adult” novel, The Mayfair Moon. To what do you attribute to your growing success?

Well, it was a combination of a lot of different things, of which most Indie authors also already do: hardcore promoting, contacting book reviewers, etc. I even quit my job so that I could spend the majority of my days writing and contacting reviewers. But I’m going to be completely honest when I say the one thing that actually made the biggest difference in the ‘shortest’ amount of time was when I had the new cover made for THE MAYFAIR MOON. I guess it’s really true that books are greatly judged by their covers. The very day I uploaded the new cover, it seemed that more readers were willing to take a chance on the book itself. Lastly, I made author and blogger friends and not just tried to network with people for the sole purpose of promoting my book. And it’s very easy to spot the difference!

What made you choose to go Indie? What is your advice to other authors that don't wish to go the “legacy publishing” route?

I chose to go Indie for the same reason a lot of Indie authors do: a long, treacherous road of agent rejections. I got tired of my books sitting in my computer collecting digital dust knowing that when I finally did land an agent that it would be months or even years more before I landed a publisher. THEN it would be another 1-2 years before I ever saw my work in print. I have nothing against the traditional publishing route, but ultimately my choice became Indie and I’m happy about my decision. My advice: Do what you feel you need to do, but if you go Indie, remember that editing is very important!

Where did you get your idea(s) for your novel, The Mayfair Moon?

I’ve been asked this question a lot so I might sound like a broken record, but here goes: I searched and searched for a YA werewolf book that depicted werewolves in that beastly, terrifying, Underworld-style sort of way, but to no avail. That’s what I wanted to read! When I couldn’t find any YA books out there like that, that’s when I just decided I was going to have to write my own and so The Darkwoods Trilogy was born.

What type/style of a writer are you? Seat-of-Your Pants? Outline Queen? Master Plotter?

I start out as a Seat-of-My-Pants writer, diving right into whatever feels right, but by the time the first book is over (if it’s a series) I become a sort of Master Plotter as far as details go. But I never outline anything and half the time I’m not sure where I’m going with a scene (or an idea – my adult contemporary dark fantasy novel DIRTY EDEN is the perfect example!) until the light bulb flashes over my head.

Did you model any character after a real person? Is there a character that resonates with you?

No, I didn't model any of the characters after anyone, but I can say Adria turned out a little like me as far as growing up in a troubled life, but her life was totally different than mine was.

What is your hope for readers to experience by reading your novel?

I just want people to enjoy it. I’ve been writing since about the age of thirteen and all I ever cared about was writing something enjoyable and somewhat memorable. I love stories. I love to tell them, read them and be a part of them. And with THE MAYFAIR MOON, I really wanted to create something that I loved because I think you have to love your story before anyone else will.

Is there a playlist that you listen to that inspires you while you're writing?

I never listen to music while I write – I have to have complete quiet – but I do have several CD’s I made full of music that I’ve sort of dubbed THE MAYFAIR MOON soundtrack. So, usually I’m driving down the street thinking about scenes in my books. Some songs that inspired scenes in THE MAYFAIR MOON are Arcana – Wings of Gabriel, Florence and the Machine - Howl and Godsmack – Serenity. You can see a good list I recently made with scene detail here:

Who is your favorite author? Is there a certain genre you read [in] exclusively?

My favorite is a toss-up between Neil Gaiman and Anne Rice, but their styles are so different that I can’t really say I prefer one more. And I tend to read a lot of genres and don’t really have one I read more than another, I guess. It’s all about atmosphere with me and I read whatever I’m in the mood for at the moment.

Are you a DTB (Dead Tree Book) reader, or do you use a dedicated reader? What do you predict for the future of these two formats?

It scares me to think that physical books will be obsolete one day – I love books! Like a lot of people, I love the smell of them, the way they rest in my hand and I love to hang out at bookstores. I guess I’m contributing to the fall of books by having a Kindle, but I like the Kindle, too, for all of its obvious uses.

You have just released book #2, Kindred. What are a few things the reader can expect from book three? Do you have ideas for a different series?

Book three, THE BALLAD OF ARAMEI, will tie up all of the loose ends and I have to say that it will likely be the most action-packed of the three. There’s a lot to sort through and I can guarantee that at least one of two things I have in store for book three, no one will see coming. As far as a new series, the next two-book story I intend to publish is more-so an old story I’m resurrecting (those two are finished novels, but need extensive editing). Though, it will also be a ‘Praverian Chronicle’. And I’m thinking of writing a side story on a key character revealed in KINDRED, but I’m not sure.

How has your experience as an author been different from what you expected?

I didn’t expect to be as stressed out as I have been. Sometimes I wish I was back in my own little world, writing stories for myself and not throwing myself to the sharks every day. But at the same time, I’m glad to be able to put something out there that some people enjoy and I appreciate all of the praise and kind words I’ve received for my work.

Lastly, now that you've written three, full-length works, how long do you think it would take you to write a full-length novel to the rough draft stage? When do you expect to release book three?

KINDRED took me about three months and that was to the rough draft stage. After editing and re-reading (about five or six times) and going through beta readers, it took about five months total, I guess. I can’t predict when book three will be released, but I’m hoping for some time around November or December, but don’t hold me to that!

Lawrence closed his eyes in a long blink then quoted from the Book; even Tony recognized the Old Language:

He that holds the blood of the Singer and seeks the night by wing, will share the song that binds with the Rare One. The Blood Wolf, a rival of no small means; mingled blood of both running in her veins.”

His gaze pierced them like steel laser beams that tore the skin aside, seeking marrow. “Her blood is a chorus of voices that sing to my soul.” William locked gazes with the leader of his kiss.

“I will never be in harmony as long as she is not with me....”
